Dorothy Brown Smith, a former real estate saleswoman and an avid gardener who once chaired the downtown Flower Mart, died Friday, of complications after a fall, at Pickersgill Retirement Community in Towson, where she had lived for 10 years. The longtime Woodbrook resident was 99.

Born in Long Green, she graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory School and studied at Goucher College before graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She was married in 1929 to Reginald M. Smith, who died in 1991. The couple lived for almost 50 years on Haddon Avenue in Woodbrook.

After her marriage, Mrs. Smith taught handicrafts such as woodcarving and sewing in the primary grades at the Bryn Mawr School, then sold real estate in the 1950s and 1960s for Chase, Fitzgerald, Davis and Roland.

She was a member of the Women's Civic League, founders in 1911 of the annual downtown Flower Mart, the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland, the Mount Royal Garden Club and L'hirondelle Club of Ruxton.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church on Sweet Air Road, Phoenix.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Smith Fleetwood of Rodgers Forge; a son, Reginald M. Smith Jr. of Woodcliff Lake, N.J.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
