Agnes Zakens, a homemaker and former Board of Elections worker, died Dec. 1 of heart failure at North Arundel Hospital. The Severna Park resident was 71.

Born Agnes Nelson and raised in East Baltimore, she attended St. Patrick's parochial school and graduated from Patterson High School.

Mrs. Zakens was a member of the Cape Arthur Garden Club and also enjoyed shopping and travel.

Services were Friday.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Stanley J. Zakens Sr.; a daughter, Joyce A. Piatti of Severn; two sons, Stanley J. Zakens Jr. of Odenton and Gary G. Zakens of Pasadena; a brother, George Nelson of Dundalk; a sister, Lillian Shell of Essex; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
