MDE sets meeting for sewage sludge facility permit

The Maryland Department of the Environment will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday regarding the Carroll County Bureau of Solid Waste Management's application for a sewage sludge utilization permit.

The application is for the construction and operation of a sewage sludge composting facility at Northern Municipal Landfill on Route 140 near Westminster.

The meeting will be held at the Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Room 003, Westminster.

State and county representatives will provide information about the permit application and the department's review process and will answer questions.

The application and supporting documents can be viewed at the County Office Building, Room 100, and at the department by appointment.

Victorian playhouse raffle to benefit Children's Fund

The Carroll County Children's Fund is holding a raffle through Friday for a Victorian-style playhouse.

Robin Ford Builders constructed and donated the 8-foot by 10-foot playhouse, which features maroon siding, three working windows and a locking front door. It is valued at $5,500.

Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased from the Children's Fund at 410-876-0928; or at Westminster BB&T; bank branches; David's Jewelers; Davis Buick-GMC; the Hickory Stick; Lumber Yard of Hampstead; Pour House Cafe; Robin Ford Building & Remodeling; and Sherwin Williams.

The winning ticket will be drawn Dec. 17. The playhouse is on display at Davis Buick-GMC in Westminster.

Proceeds will benefit Children's Fund programs and services. The fund was established in 1983 by Dr. Karl Green to provide medical assistance to children whose families are under-insured or uninsured.

Meals on Wheels offers help to the homebound

Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland provides nutritious meals to the homebound, sick, elderly and disabled in Carroll County.

Individuals who are unable to shop for themselves or cook their meals can get help from Meals on Wheels.

Volunteers will deliver one hot and one cold meal Monday through Friday, holidays included, to those in need. Meals are delivered between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Volunteers also can visit with clients, make telephone calls to chat, do their food shopping, help make the client's home safe and provide a social link.

Anyone needing the services of Meals on Wheels or who would like to schedule a speaker for a meeting on the program, can call the Westminster office, 63 E. Main St., at 410-857-4447.
