Recreation council plans holiday lunch

Seniors In Action Recreation Council will meet at noon Tuesday at Westminster Riding Club for its annual holiday luncheon.

The cost and entree will be announced. Lunch reservations should be made by calling 410-239-2125. No reservations are needed for the general membership meeting.

The public is welcome.

SPIN to meet Dec. 18 at Westminster site

The Senior Provider Information Network (SPIN) will meet at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 18 at Westminster Senior Center.

SPIN is a group of individuals who work with senior citizens in a variety of ways, from the senior centers, retirement communities, nursing homes, health care and more.

Westminster center plans book discussion

Westminster Senior Center has announced programs for members.

A book discussion group will meet Tuesday to discuss Tuesdays With Maude.

Spencer Gear will give a talk about holiday stress at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

An intergenerational program with a local middle school will be held Wednesday.

A Site Council meeting will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday for the lunch club.

Current affairs discussions will be held at 5 p.m. Friday.

The Westminster Municipal Band will present a free concert from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 16 at the center. The public is welcome.

A test kitchen will be held at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 16.

A tea party and dinner to celebrate the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party in 1773 will be held Dec. 17. A tea party will be held before dinner, and a display of teapots will be shown. Reservations are requested.

Betty Lou's Progressive 500 Card Party will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 18.

A center Christmas party will be held Dec. 18 featuring entertainment by the Goldenaires.

The center is offering gift certificates for purchase. The certificates can be used for such things as payment for lunches, classes, entertainment and center trips.

Games are offered at N. Carroll center

North Carroll Senior Center will offer these events for members:

Center news will be discussed at 1 p.m. Tuesdays, followed by live country music, cards and dominoes.

Scrabble games will be played from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.

Mah-jong classes are being offered at 1 p.m. Fridays for anyone interested in learning the game. Lessons are free for seniors.

Christmas card party set at Taneytown center

Taneytown Senior Center offers activities for members:

Stamping With Claudine will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow.

A Christmas card writing party will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Libby's fried chicken lunch and card party will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A Needlework Club will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 18. Participants can come and learn something new or bring a project to work on.

A cookie exchange party will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 19. Participants should bring three dozen cookies to exchange. The center Christmas lunch and party will be held at 11:30 a.m.

A Better Health through Physical Education program with Susie Ponsetto will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays.

Floral arrangement class to be at Mount Airy center

Mount Airy Senior Center offers events for members.

Christmas Floral Arrangement class will be held Wednesday at South Carroll High School's Career and Technology Center. Participants will make a floral arrangement to take home. The cost is a $3 donation. The group will carpool from the center at 9:30 a.m. to the school.

Day at the movies will be at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 17. Young Pioneers Christmas, starring Molly Beaton and Roger Kern from 1976 will be shown. Free popcorn will be served.

Reflexology with Annette will be offered Dec. 18 in half-hour sessions by appointment. Reflexology is a holistic system of treatment involving simple pressure being applied with the fingers to reflex points on and around the feet and hands. The method aims to improve circulation by releasing tension, inflammation and congestion at those points. The cost is $20.

Fun and Games with Bev Green will be held at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 19. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. and will feature turkey. The cost is a donation up to $3.10.

The senior center Christmas party will be held at 11:45 a.m. Dec. 23, starting with a fried chicken luncheon. Afterward, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will visit with the children from the Mount Airy Day Care Center and join in singing Christmas carols. Registration is required. The cost of lunch is a donation of up to $3.10.

Remember When with Jan Timreck will be held at 9:30 a.m. every Wednesday.

South Carroll center sets programs for members

South Carroll Senior Center in Eldersburg offers events for members.

Sister Marie from Northwest Hospital Center will discuss winter safety for seniors at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Christmas bingo will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Free snacks and Christmas prizes will be offered until noon. Lunch at noon will feature a pork chop with sauce, parslied rice, Oriental vegetables, roll and orange. The cost for lunch is a donation up to $3.34. Reservations are required by tomorrow.

AARP chapter lists trips for this year

AARP Carroll County Chapter 662 has planned trips for next year.

March 6: The Meyerhoff to see Marvin Hamlisch in One Singular Sensation.

March 28-April 7: Western Caribbean Cruise leaving from Baltimore. Registrations with deposit are being taken now.

Sept. 22-Oct. 3: New England and Canada Cruise leaving from Baltimore. Registration and deposits are being taken now.

Recreation council plans trip to BSO program

Seniors In Action Recreation Council has planned trips for next year.

Trips are not limited to seniors. Trips not filled 30 days before the scheduled date will be canceled, with the deposit returned.

The next trip will be to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" program Jan. 30. Participants will meet the bus at 10:30 a.m. at Carroll Community College parking lot to go to Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center for lunch.

The bus will leave at 12:30 p.m. for the Meyerhoff, which will be transformed into "Meyerhoff Stadium," complete with hot dog stands, popcorn and guest athletes. The 2 p.m. program will be a musical journey of the "Sounds of the Stadium," such as Play Ball! and Casey at the Bat and movie scores from sports films.

The cost is $70 for members and $73.50 for nonmembers. A $25 deposit is required at registration and the remainder Jan. 2.
