Hearing postponed for suspect in College Park stabbing death

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A hearing in the case of Columbia resident John Ryan Schlamp, who has been charged by police with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a University of Maryland sophomore, was postponed yesterday after an brief session in Prince George's County District Court.

Schlamp's lawyer, Henry L. McRobie, said after the courtroom appearance that a grand jury is still investigating the case, weighing whether to indict his client on murder charges.

Schlamp, 24, of the 8500 block of Winter Pasture Way and Anne Arundel County resident Quan Lewayne Davis, 23, both face first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of Brandon J. Malstrom, who was fatally stabbed during a fight at an off-campus party Nov. 10 in College Park.

Schlamp hit Malstrom and shouted "I am going to kill you," according to charging documents by police. Davis pulled an object from his waistband and struck Malstrom with it, according to separate documents.

Schlamp's hearing is now scheduled for Dec. 20.
