High school to offer feast and concert

South Carroll High School will hold a community winter feast at 5:30 p.m. today in the school cafeteria.

Salerno's will cater a turkey and ham dinner. The dinner costs $12 and $4 for children age 12 and younger.

After the dinner, the school choir will present its winter vocal music concert at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The free concert is open to the public.

Vineyards and winery to hold holiday open house

Elk Run Vineyards & Winery will hold a free holiday open house from noon to 4 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at the winery west of Taylorsville.

The event will feature Christmas in the parlor of the 18th-century winemakers' home with Charles Dickens readings. Mulled wine and light fare will be served while carolers sing.

High school collecting outer wear for charity

The South Carroll High School media center is sponsoring a mitten tree to collect warm outer wear for Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc.

Donations of mittens, scarves, hats, gloves and earmuffs will be taken to the Neighbors in Need Holiday Shop in TownMall of Westminster.

The theme of the drive is "Warm hands help warm hearts." Donations will be accepted until Dec. 16 at the school, 1300 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

Service project, shows set for Mount Airy library

The Mount Airy library branch, 705 Ridge Ave., will offer:

"Year-round Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 11 a.m. today on "Winter Woolies," at 11 a.m. tomorrow, and 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday on "Stories of Eric Carle."

"Winter Service Project - Millennium Teens" at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Teen-agers will make centerpieces and door decorations for residents of Lorien Assisted Living.

The Drama Conservatory presenting The Leopard's Noisy Drum at 10 a.m. Dec. 14 for ages 4 and older. Freedom Area Recreation Council's youth theater group will perform a Janice Kuharski story.

Mount Airy Book Club for adults at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 to discuss A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote and 1 p.m. Dec. 18 to discuss Skipping Christmas by John Grisham.

Theater group sponsors 'Squares for Care' drive

The Mount Airy Players theater group is sponsoring a "Squares for Care" drive - collecting crocheted or knitted squares originally intended for afghans or scarves.

The squares will be sewn together by members of the group and distributed to Frederick and Carroll County charitable organizations that aid the homeless and those in need. Any size, color or quality of handmade squares is welcome.

Squares can also be dropped off during the troupe's performances of A Christmas Carol at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St., Mount Airy, before the 8 p.m. performances Dec. 13, 14, 19, 20, 21 and the 2 p.m. show Dec. 15.

South Carroll collects 819 items in food drive

South Carroll High School collected 819 items of food during the media center's collection last month.

Members of the Key Club and Best Buddies Club took in donations on activity days. The homeroom donating the most food items, 138, was 12-3. The runner-up was homeroom 12-10.

Bob Klages from the social studies department delivered all of the food to Carroll County Food Sunday.
