Pancake breakfast to be held tomorrow at St. Michael's

The Men's Club of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Poplar Springs will hold its annual pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow in the church hall, 1125 St. Michael's Road.

Pancakes, sausage, home fries, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee will be served. Free rides with Santa Claus in his sleigh will be offered on the church parking lot, weather permitting.

The cost is $4.50 for adults; $2.50 for children to age 10. A photographer will be available to take pictures.

Those who attend are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots program.

Series of Advent sermons set at Christ Memorial

The Rev. Steven Carter, pastor of Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6410 Amherst Ave., Columbia, will offer a series of Advent sermons called "Anticipating the Day."

High school students from the church's LOGOS Youth Program will light Advent candles and will present banners representing love, hope, joy and peace. Everyone is welcome.

Christ Memorial's worship services are held at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sundays. The church is in the Allview Estates neighborhood.

Camp fair to be held Sunday at high school

The Jewish Federation of Howard County will sponsor a camp fair from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Representatives from day camps and residential camps will discuss their camps.

The Nelsongs - A Rockin' Kids' Review will provide entertainment from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Oakland Mills High School, 9410 Kilimanjaro Road, Columbia.

Tickets are $6. Proceeds will help support the federation's education initiatives and will help start a professional development fund for Jewish educators.

Lubavitch Center offering three free classes

Rabbi Hillel Baron of the Lubavitch Center for Jewish Education, 770 Howes Lane, Columbia, is offering free classes in Jewish liturgy, law and mysticism.

"It's Good to Know: The Meaning of Prayer" will focus on traditional prayers, as explained in Jewish texts and Kabbalah. The class meets at 8:30 p.m. Mondays.

"An Introduction to Talmud and Jewish Law" will discuss the origin of Jewish practices and customs in Talmud, Torah and Jewish law. Participants will study The Mishneh Torah of Rambam, known as Maimonides. The class meets at 8:30 p.m. Thursdays.

"Chassidic Philosophy: Spiritual Growth Through Action and Prayer" will discuss Tanya and other discourses of the first Lubavitcher Rebbe. The class meets at 9 a.m. Saturdays.

All classes will be held at the Lubavitch Center. Registration is requested.

Biblical Jewish women is topic of study session

The Howard County chapter of Hadassah will hold a study group with Chani Baron of the Lubavitch Center for Jewish Education from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at 7830 Old Litchfield Lane, Ellicott City.

The topic will be "Jewish Women in the Bible."

'Holiday Morning' slated at St. Paul's tomorrow

St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2001 Old Frederick Road, Catonsville, will hold a "Holiday Morning" for children ages 3 to 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Children will have an opportunity to make gingerbread houses, a Jesus gift ornament, a Christmas bag and a snow globe. Parents are invited to share the activities with their children.

The cost is $3 for each child.
