Proposed textbooks will be on display at education building

Textbooks and related materials proposed for use in Howard County public schools will be on display in the lobby at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108 in Ellicott City.

The materials will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Jan. 2, except Dec. 24 and 25 and Jan. 1.

Forms will be available to express approval or to request re-evaluation of any of the materials.

Work Enclave Program to hold holiday plant sale

The Work Enclave Program of Howard County public schools, a hands-on, work-training program for students with disabilities, will hold its holiday plant sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the greenhouses behind the Applied Research Laboratory on Route 108 in Ellicott City, next door to the Board of Education buildings.

Poinsettias, wreaths, roping, holiday greens, house plants and hanging baskets will be for sale.

Proceeds will support the program.

Wilde Lake workshop puts focus on parental skills

The Wilde Lake Community Association will sponsor a workshop by Eva Skrenta of the Adler-Dreikurs Parenting Program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center, Columbia.

The topic will be "Encouragement vs. Rewards and Praise." The workshop will focus on the hidden costs of rewards as an incentive to learn and the art of encouragement.

The cost is $15, or $22 a couple.

Registration is required.
