Byron H. Nuttle, 79, farmer, canner, clothes shop owner

Byron H. Nuttle, a retired Denton clothing store owner, farmer and canner, died Nov. 27 of pneumonia at Easton Memorial Hospital. He was 79 and lived in Denton.

Mr. Nuttle, who was known as Barney, was born in the farm village of Andersontown near Denton. A 1940 graduate of Caroline High School, he earned a degree in agriculture from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1947, after his Army service in World War II.

He owned and operated Everngam's clothing store on Market Street in Denton until his retirement about 15 years ago. He also farmed, ran a family-owned tomato cannery on Route 16 at Hickman and was a real estate broker.

Mr. Nuttle was a former director of People's Bank of Maryland in Denton and was a past president and board member of Caroline Country Club, where he supervised construction of its 18-hole golf course. He also sat on the board of Memorial Hospital at Easton.

A service was held Saturday at Concord United Methodist Church, where he was a member.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Mariana Everngam; three sons, Jeffrey B. Nuttle of Denton, Charles T. Nuttle of Richmond, Va., and John L. Nuttle of Easton; and a grandson.
