Surfin' with the Beach Boys

Those perpetual adolescents, the Beach Boys, turn 40 this year, and they're still having Fun, Fun, Fun. Perhaps that's why the Boys were described in the May 21, 2001 issue of Rolling Stone as America's finest rock band. The singers of such golden-oldie hits as Surfin' USA, Good Vibrations, California Girls and Wouldn't It Be Nice will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St. Tickets are $25-$60. Wax Museum dance

Dust off your dancing shoes Saturday and head over to the Oldies But Goodies Dance at the Great Blacks in Wax Museum, 1601 E. North Ave. From 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., you can show off your booty call, take a museum tour and step up to the karaoke mike. B.Y.O.B.; free setups. Festival of Trees

The Cow Palace at the State Fairgrounds in Timonium will be filled with wreaths, Christmas stockings, gingerbread houses, handcrafted gifts and hundreds of decorated Christmas trees for the Kennedy Krieger Institute's annual Festival of Trees, tomorrow through Sunday. All items will be sold to benefit the institute, which treats children with disabilities. There also will be live entertainment and a visit by Santa Claus. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8, $4 seniors and children. The fairgrounds are located at York and Timonium roads. Call 443-923-7300.

Holiday Art Market

In the market for some art? Of the funky kind? Drop by the American Visionary Art Museum's Holiday Art Market, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Look out for Rick Shelley's "Weird Wire" bug collection, Glen Hibine's "Hey Hon" greeting cards, Nancy Josephson's "Beaded Eye Jewelry," Lawrence and Jo Weisgal's "Wonder Wyndworks," as well as handcrafted handbags, masks, garden art, blown glass, scarves and much more. 'Sound of Music' sing-a-long

Here's your chance to dress as a brown-paper package tied up with string. The Sing-A-Long Sound of Music is coming to Baltimore Sunday for two performances at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St. This is an audience-participation show in the vein of A Rocky Horror Picture Show, complete with a costume contest, an emcee who will coach the audience through vocal warm-ups and synchronized gestures, and audience-response kits. Sankofa Dance Theater

You've seen it at this venue. You've seen it at that venue. Now see the Sankofa Dance Theater in its new, permanent home, the Sankofa Dance Theater Auditorium, 2901 Druid Park Drive. On Saturday and Sunday, the African dance-and-drum company presents its annual harvest concert, with the theme of "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." 'Holiday Festival of Trains'

Christmas without model trains? Not at the B&O; Railroad Museum. "The Holiday Festival of Trains" steams into the museum tomorrow and continues running through Dec. 30. Check out toy-train layouts and holiday gardens throughout the festival; meet Santa as he arrives by locomotive at 11 a.m. tomorrow; take train rides this weekend and on selected dates in December; meet the National Capitol Trackers and ogle their O-gauge multiloop layout on the Roundhouse turntable Dec. 21-29. 'Seussical: The Musical'

The Cat in the Hat restoring order? Yes, the Cat, arguably the world's most famous -- and messiest -- feline, is a force for harmony in Seussical: The Musical, which pads into the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre on Tuesday for an eight-performance run. Cathy Rigby (pictured) stars as the Cat in this contemporary re-imagining of Dr. Seuss tales, which weaves together such characters as Horton the Elephant and Gertrude McFuzz and places them in the Jungle of Nool. Show times at the Mechanic, 25 Hopkins Plaza, are 8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $22.50-$70. Call 410-481-SEAT.
