WHEN JIM Patton and Sherry Brokus return to Anne Arundel County, it's always a sentimental journey.
Patton was The Sun's 1986 Baltimore Metropolitan Coach of the Year and The Sun's Anne Arundel County edition 1990 Coach of the Decade. His wife, Brokus, was Annapolis' 1986 Young Businesswoman of the Year.
But what brings them home this time is their music. The couple's folk-rock band, Edge City, will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Holy Grounds Youth Center at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park. It was at a Woods' coffeehouse three decades ago that Patton first played his songs in public.
A graduate of Severna Park High School, Patton was a successful head track and cross country coach at his alma mater in the 1980s.
Brokus, who graduated from Archbishop Spalding High School, became HIV/AIDS coordinator for the county Health Department, director of Annapolis Youth Services, and then pioneered a Baltimore HIV/AIDS street outreach program. Today, she is in private practice as a psychological therapist in Austin, Texas, where the couple lives.
Edge City's most recent album is Mystery Ride. Admission to Saturday's show is $10.
