Calvin Carson Young, 58, Social Security supervisor

Calvin Carson Young, a Social Security Administration supervisor who was active in the affairs of New Shiloh Baptist Church, died of diabetes Sunday. He was 58.

Born in Baltimore and raised on Whittier Avenue, Mr. Young was a 1962 graduate of Frederick Douglass High School. He attended what was then Morgan State College before beginning his career at Social Security in 1965.

At his death, Mr. Young was a supervisor in the division of employers' services at SSA's Metro Plaza office in downtown Baltimore.

A longtime Edmondson Village resident, Mr. Young was a deacon at New Shiloh Baptist Church and was active in its Men's Ministry. He was also an evangelistic minister and a member of the Progressive Baptist Convention.

Mr. Young was an avid collector of model automobiles.

A wake will be held at 10 a.m. Monday followed by services at 11 a.m. at New Shiloh, 2100 N. Monroe St.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 21 years, the former Brenda Joyce Wells; a son, Daron Wells of Baltimore; two daughters, Shawn Watson of Baltimore and Adrienne Broadway of Lansdowne; two brothers, Carroll Young of Newark, Del., and Cornelius Young of Penlyn, Pa.; a sister, Margaret Robbins of Chase; and four grandchildren.
