BOYS
Kevin Mezzadra
Loyola, soccer
The regular season was over, but Mezzadra wasn't done scoring goals. In Monday's North-South Senior All-Star Game, he scored a goal for the North in a 3-2 loss to the South.
In the game, played at Johns Hopkins and sponsored by the Maryland Association of Coaches of Soccer, Mezzadra demonstrated his mastery at putting the ball into the back of the net.
A right-footer, Mezzadra trapped a pass, turned and fired an 18-yard left-footed shot into the goal. The striker scored 22 goals and assisted on nine for the MIAA A Conference semifinalists. Mezzadra's 71 career goals are the most in Loyola history, and he has 43 career assists. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior has committed to UMBC to play soccer.
GIRLS
Ashly Kennedy
St. Mary's, soccer
Kennedy completed an outstanding senior season and four-year varsity career by playing in Monday's North-South Senior All-Star Game at Johns Hopkins.
The gifted central defender is spending this week in Boca Raton, Fla., as a member of the Region 1 team competing at the USYSA Olympic Development Program camp. A total of 64 players representing four regions are at the camp, and a pool of players for the under-19 national team will be selected.
Earlier this fall, Kennedy led the Saints to a third straight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship, scoring the winning goal in overtime for a 2-1 win against Notre Dame Prep in the final. Her defensive instincts and ability to smoothly work the ball out of the back were her trademarks.
Kennedy will play at the University of Maryland next fall.
