County offices to close for Thanksgiving

Carroll County government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.

Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Dec. 2.

Northern Landfill and the Recycling Center will be closed Thursday and open Friday.

County public libraries will be closed Thursday. Senior centers will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Public schools will be closed all week for parent conferences and for Thanksgiving.

CHANGE Inc. schedules Get to Know Us breakfast

CHANGE Inc., a nonprofit organization that works with people who have developmental disabilities, will hold a Get to Know Us breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 4 at its office in Westminster.

Guests will learn about CHANGE, what it does and the organization's plans for next year. CHANGE has been assisting the disabled for more than 30 years.

The breakfast will last about an hour and is open to the public. Reservations are requested. CHANGE is at 115 Stoner Ave.

Construction, patching, tree-trimming affect roads

The Carroll County Department of Public Works has announced road construction projects for this week.

Road construction: Kate Wagner Road extension from Route 32 to the end; Ladiesburg Road, closed off Route 75.

Patching: Daihlwood Court from Western Chapel Road to the cul-de-sac.

Tree trimming: Mineral Hill Road from Pine Knob Road to Oakland Mills Road; Adams Mill Road from Route 852 to Roops Mill Road; Hughes Shop Road from Route 140 to Pleasant Valley Road; Richardson Road from Route 832 to Pleasant Valley Road.

County Family Center sets December activities

The Carroll County Family Center will offer activities for member families next month. The theme for the month is "Celebrations."

A Snowman Gifts class will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 3. Participants will find out about simple and inexpensive gifts.

The adult-education class will visit Carroll Community College on Dec. 5 to learn about programs.

Holiday baking will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 10. Participants will make holiday treats.

A trip to Hershey, Pa., to see the holiday lights display will be taken Dec. 12. The group will leave at 3 p.m. and return at 10:30 p.m. The cost is $5.

The center will be closed Dec. 16 and 17 while staff members work at the Neighbors in Need holiday shop.

A holiday celebration will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 19. Activities will feature breakfast and a visit from Santa Claus. Child-care families will have a celebration at 5 p.m. that day.

The center will be closed Dec. 25 and 26 for Christmas.

Registration is required for all programs.

The center is at 10 Distillery Drive, Westminster.
