Free throws help Navy top Yale

Abi Campbell scored 11 of her career-high 16 points in the last nine minutes to help the Navy women's basketball team hold off Yale (0-2), 77-69, in the consolation game of the Bank North Classic in Burlington, Vt.

Lisa Steinmetz sank a pair of free throws to give Navy (1-1) its largest lead of the game at 70-58 with two minutes on the clock. The free throws by Steinmetz began a stretch in which Navy converted nine of 12 foul shots.

The Mids' Courtney Davidson led all scorers with 25 points and went 10-for-10 from the line. She set Navy and Patriot League single-season records for foul shooting last year at 89.7 percent.

Seton Hall 77, Coppin State 49: Shamara Singleterry scored 11 points to lead the Eagles (1-1) in a losing effort in the Seton Hall Classic championship game in South Orange, N.J.

LaNedra Brown led the Pirates (2-0) with 20 points, and Charlena Thomas added 16.

Johns Hopkins 94, St. Mary's 60: Senior center Kathy Darling set a school and tournament record by making all 12 of her shots to lead Hopkins over the Seahawks (0-1) in the semifinals of the Blue Jay Invitational at Goldfarb Gymnasium.

The Blue Jays (1-0) advance to face College of New Jersey (1-0) - which defeated North Carolina Wesleyan (0-1), 66-30, in the second semifinal - in the championship game at 3 p.m. today. St. Mary's will play North Carolina Wesleyan in the consolation game at 1 p.m.

McDaniel 66, Vassar 57: MVP Jen Piccolomini scored 13 points to lead the Green Terror over the host Brewers (1-1) in the championship of the Vassar Invitational in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The Green Terror (2-0) took a commanding lead midway through the second half when it went on a 14-0 run to increase its lead to 59-44 with seven minutes remaining.

Emory & Henry 69, Goucher 68: Erin Connelly made a 25-foot shot at the buzzer to lift the Wasps (1-1) to the championship of the Coca-Cola Tip-Off Classic in Ashland, Va.

Goucher enjoyed a 66-59 advantage when Stephanie Tolbert (Western) nailed a three-point field goal with 3:18 remaining, but Emory & Henry went on a 7-0 run to tie the score at 66-66 with :36 remaining.

The Gophers (1-1) regained a two-point lead on a basket by Tolbert with :25 showing on the clock, setting up Connelly's game-winner.

Hollins 76, College of Notre Dame 58: Sophomore guard Brandi Cochran scored 20 points, and sophomore center Katie Parnell added 12 points and 13 rebounds as Hollins (2-0) beat the host Gators in the championship game of the third annual Women's Colleges Tip-Off Tournament.

Sophomore Kathleen Burley (Thomas Johnson) led the Gators (1-1) with 14 points, while senior Amanda Poppleton scored 13 and had eight assists.

Springfield 83, Washington College 38: The Shorewomen fell to 0-2 with a loss to the Pride (1-1) in the consolation game of the Wingate Inn Tip-Off at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa.

Shorewomen's Liz Smith (Boonsboro) recorded a double double - a game-high 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Chowan 73, Hood 53: The Braves (1-1), powered by Chasity Vaughn with 17, nearly doubled (40-22) the scoring output of the Blazers (0-2) in the first half of the consolation game of the Peace College Tipoff Tournament in Raleigh, N.C.

King's 84, Salisbury 57: Jen Wozniak scored 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting to power the Lady Monarchs (2-0) past the Sea Gulls (1-1) in semifinal action of the Marymount Tip-Off Classic in Arlington, Va.

Bowie State 66, Shepherd 61: Rachill Robinson and Leketia Berry each scored 12 points and combined for 14 rebounds as the Bulldogs (1-1) finished third at the Avalon Classic in Erie, Pa.
