Mary Virginia Barry, a homemaker, bridge player and former teacher, died Wednesday at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium. The Timonium resident was 75.
Born Mary Virginia Ganzhorn in Baltimore and raised on Cresmont Avenue, she attended Cathedral School in downtown Baltimore and was a member of Mount St. Agnes High School's Class of 1945. She earned a degree at Towson University and a master's degree in education at Loyola College.
She taught reading at Roland Park Junior High School in the 1960s.
She lived for many years on Club Road in Roland Park and belonged to numerous Catholic organizations. For more than 40 years, she played a weekly game of bridge with former Mount St. Agnes classmates. She also sewed, knitted and sent numerous birthday cards.
In 1950, she married Owen J. Rouse Sr., an attorney, who died in 1961. She married Alfred W. Barry Jr., a retired motor truck agency manager, in 1966. He survives her.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity, 1809 Vista Lane, Timonium.
Survivors also include a son, Owen J. Rouse Jr. of Baltimore; three daughters, Chip Rouse of Lutherville, Mary Patricia Rouse of Freeville, N.Y. and Mary Lee Scott of Towson; two stepsons, Alfred W. Barry III and John K. Barry, both of Baltimore; two stepdaughters, Suzanne C. Barry of Malvern, Pa., and Nancy K. Barry of Decorah, Iowa; and six grandchildren.
