Michael Owings named remodeler of the year

Michael Owings, a principal and owner of Owings Brothers Contracting Inc. in Eldersburg, was named Remodeler of the Year by the Remodelors Council of the Home Builders Association of Maryland at its annual awards ceremony this month. The group also named Mary Krahling, director of builder operations for the Thos. Somerville Co. in Upper Marlboro, as Remodeling Associate of the Year.

Among the Award of Excellence winners:

Elegant Builders Inc. for kitchen remodeling, under $50,000.

Sullivan Blake Remodeling Inc. for kitchen remodeling, $50,000 to $100,000; and for residential remodeling, $200,000 to $270,000.

ITI Construction Services for kitchen remodeling, $100,000 to $150,000.

Baywood Design/Build Group Inc., for kitchen remodeling, $150,000 and over; for bathroom remodeling $25,000 and under; and for residential remodeling, $75,000 and under and $150,000 to $200,000.

Wheatley Associates Inc. for bathroom remodeling, $25,000 and over; and for outdoor living, $50,000 and under.

Bishop is sales chief at Golden Builder

Annapolis-based Golden Builder has hired Robby Bishop to head its sales and marketing department. The builder also named Karen Osborn as a selections coordinator and Todd O'Brien as operations coordinator.

The company builds up to 24 custom luxury homes a year in Anne Arundel, Howard and Montgomery counties.

Gallow Architects to aid Qdoba expansion

Baltimore-based Colimor Gallow Architects Inc. said it will provide architectural services for the 20-store expansion in the Baltimore area of the Colorado-based Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurant chain.

Design is under way for the first store at Timonium Shopping Center on York Road, with construction to begin by mid-December. The restaurant is expected to open early next year.

Site selection is continuing for additional sites in the Baltimore metro area.

Wheat Ridge, Colo.-based Qdoba was founded seven years ago and has 81 restaurants in 16 states.

Grove elected treasurer of Baltimore Realtors

Katie E. Grove, a sales associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage's Owings Mills Office, recently was elected 2003 treasurer of the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors.

Grove, a nine-year real estate veteran, was the board of Realtors' 2001 distinguished sales associate of the year. She also serves on the board of directors and the executive committee. Grove is a past secretary of the group's Women's Council of Realtors.

Diehl on standards panel of P.G. Realtors

James M. Diehl, an associate broker and dual career agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage's Lanham-Greenbelt Office, has been appointed to serve a one-year term on the Professional Standards Committee for the Prince George's County Association of Realtors.
