State football semifinal
Today
Class 2A: No. 2 Hereford (11-0) vs. No. 4 Edmondson (11-0)
Site: Poly
Time: 1 p.m.
Outlook: In Edmondson's pro-set offense run by QB Daryl Smith (eight passing TDs), several players have thrived: RB Mark Hicks (eight TDs), RB Greg Hawkins (17 TDs), RB Terence Arter (seven rushing TDs, two kickoff returns for TDs) and WR Roderick Wolfe (five receiving TDs, four rushing). Hereford operates out of a wing-T offense run by junior QB Andy DePaola (10 passing TDs). The Bulls also get key contributions from RB Adam Goloboski (26 TDs), RB Pat Butt (16) and RB Ryan Shupert (10). The size of the Red Storm's two-way linemen is startling, with Lonnie Harvey (6 feet 4, 320 pounds), Dennis Cooper (6-2, 330) and Jonathan Sykes (6-0, 255) being part of a group whose average size is 6-2, 262 pounds. They'll engage with Hereford OL-DLs Joe Akers (6-3, 292), Henry Julio (6-2, 265) and Zach Armiger (6-2, 226), part of a group whose average weight is 242 pounds. A key to the game will be whether Hereford DE Billy Reuter (12 sacks) and DB Ray Wittelsberger (10 INTs) can control the strong-passing Smith and Wolfe.
