Christmas bazaar will include crafts, ham supper

Taylorsville United Methodist Church will feature an oyster and ham luncheon during its Christmas bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at the church.

The lunch will be served beginning at 10:30 a.m. Oyster platters will cost $8.50 and ham platters $7. Sandwiches and homemade soups and pies also will be available.

The bazaar will feature crafts, wreaths, baked goods, homemade pickles and jellies, a children's shop, train garden, music and a silent auction. Visitors also can take a hayride.

Pancake breakfast offered by Kiwanis Club

The Kiwanis Club of Mount Airy will hold a pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to noon tomorrow at Calvary United Methodist Church.

The breakfast includes pancakes, eggs cooked to order, Wagner Brothers sausage and beverages. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12.

Proceeds benefit the club's community projects.

Blood drive to be held at chiropractic center

The Mount Airy Chiropractic Center will hold a holiday blood drive from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the office, 602 Center St., Suite 109.

The Red Cross bloodmobile will be at the center. Anyone who donated at the September Mount Airy blood drive is eligible to give again.

Blood is especially needed during the holiday season. Healthy individuals aged 17 and older can donate. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

Firehouse schedules safety open house

Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual Holiday Safety Open House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at the firehouse.

Fire company volunteers will offer tours of the firehouse and equipment and holiday safety tips for all ages. Parents are welcome to bring cameras for pictures of their children with Santa Claus.

Other activities will include the sprinkler trailer, the children's fire safety house, Maryland State Police seat belt convincer, the Thurmont Canine Search and Rescue Team, and children's identifications and fingerprinting.

Door prizes will be given away.

County history program among library offerings

The Mount Airy branch library, 705 Ridge Ave., will offer:

Year Round Story Time for all ages (3 and younger must be with an adult) at 11 a.m. today on "Falling for Fall," Nov. 29 on "Oh, What a Day"; at 11 a.m. tomorrow on "Falling for Fall"; and at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday on "Oh, What a Day," Dec. 3 on "Winter Woolies."

"History of Carroll County" for ages 7 to teens at 10 a.m. Monday. Children will learn what it was like to live in Carroll County in the mid-1850s, the Civil War and early 1900s.

"Tellabration from McDaniel College - Storytelling for Adults" at 7 p.m. Monday. Several storytellers from the college will entertain adults with legends and tales as part of Tellabration, an international event to build community support for storytelling.

Bedtime Stories for all ages (children 3 and younger with an adult) at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.

Holiday Craft Day for all ages (children 3 and younger with an adult) from 10 a.m. to noon, 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 5. Participants can make a gift or a holiday decoration.

Winery will offer tastings from Nov. 29 to Dec. 23

Berrywine Plantations, Linganore Winecellars, will have a holiday Thank You Wine and Cheese Tasting from Nov. 29 to Dec. 23. Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Tours of the winery and tastings of wines with a selection of cheeses and crackers will be offered as the winery offers its appreciation for your business.

Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and kites for the children to enjoy on the grounds.

Admission is free.

Christmas tree sale by Scouts starts Nov. 30

Boy Scout Troop 460 of Mount Airy will hold its annual Christmas Tree Sale from Nov. 30 to Dec. 24 in the lot next to Sharma (formerly Four County) Exxon on Route 27.

Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekends and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays. Freshly cut trees from Gettysburg, Pa., will be sold.

Proceeds support the troop's activities throughout the year, including summer camp. Scouts, parents and troop leaders all participate in the sale, the troop's largest fund-raiser.

Beth Shalom to present 'Rothchilds' on Dec. 7

Beth Shalom Congregation of Carroll County will present the Tony Award-winning one-man show The Rothchilds, with Bernie Dean, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the synagogue.

A light wine, cheese and dessert table will be served after the show. Tickets are $30 and reservations are required.

The synagogue holds weekly Shabbat services at 8 p.m. Fridays conducted by Rabbi Amy Scheinerman.

Scouts mark 50th year with banquet at fire hall

Boy Scout Troop 733 recently held a 50th anniversary celebration and dedicated a plaque to its many Eagle Scouts over the years.

More than 110 past and current Scouts and their families and friends attended the banquet at the Winfield fire hall. Del. Nancy Stocksdale and County Commissioner Julia Walsh Gouge also attended and congratulated the troop on its anniversary.

Troop leaders and guests who attended included: Jerry Patterson, current Scoutmaster; Norman Zepp Sr., vice president of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department; George Dorsey, past committee chairman; Bob Saynuk, Bob Langhage and Bob Larrimore III, past Scoutmasters.
