Gloria Hudson Riedy, 78, business teacher

Gloria Hudson Riedy, a retired educator who taught at schools in Rock Hall and Bucks County, Pa., died of Parkinson's disease Saturday at her Roland Park Place home. She was 78.

Born Gloria J. Hudson in Fort Madison, Iowa, and raised in Nauvoo, Ill., she earned a bachelor's degree in business education from the University of Illinois in 1947, and a master's in education from Trenton State College in the early 1960s.

After her 1950 marriage to Wilson Lobach Riedy, also an educator, the couple moved to Chestertown, where she taught at Rock Hall High School. Mrs. Riedy later taught business courses in Bucks County public schools for 27 years, retiring in 1984.

Her husband died in 1996, and Mrs. Riedy had lived since then at Roland Park Place. She was an accomplished needleworker and enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends.

Services were held Tuesday at Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestertown. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Roland Park Place, 830 W. 40th St.

She is survived by two sons, Alexander W. Riedy of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Mark Hudson Riedy of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Dr. Melissa Riedy Spevak of Roland Park; two sisters, Elizabeth Bell of Baltimore and Nancy Campbell of Fort Collins, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
