Ludwig 'Tom' Thompson, 90, steel worker

Ludwig M. Thompson, a longtime steel worker known as Tom to friends and family, died of cancer Nov. 13 at Riverview Care Center in Essex. He was 90.

Born in Baltimore, Mr. Thompson lived most of his life in the Dundalk area.

He was a longtime employee of Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point.

He was active in King David's Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars, Boumi Temple and the Moose Lodge.

He was a Civil War buff and a sports fan.

"He kind of epitomized what a gentleman should be," said his nephew, Neill W. Barber of Perry Hall.

Mr. Barber said his uncle wouldn't throw away the many solicitations from charities that came in the mail. "He always sent them something," he said.

Services were held Monday.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruby M. Kitrinos-Thompson; a daughter, Patricia A. Thompson of Cockeysville; a sister, Mary Elaine Luette of Williamsburg, Va.; two grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
