Blair P. Overton III, 64, teacher in Prince George's
Blair P. Overton III, a retired Prince George's County teacher and Baltimore native, died Nov. 13 in an automobile accident near his Crofton home. He was 64.
Raised in the city's Patterson Park section, he was a 1955 graduate of Polytechnic Institute, where he played varsity football and baseball. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va., and a master's from George Washington University.
He taught physical education and coached football, track, golf and wrestling at Crossland High School in Camp Springs, and continuing coaching after being appointed to an administrative post in 1968 at the school system's headquarters.
He retired in 1996 as a pupil- accounting official and devoted much of his time to raising puppies and assisting in administrative roles for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a New York-based organization that trains guide dogs for the visually impaired.
No funeral is planned.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, the former Winnifred Bealor; two sons, Blair P. "Pat" Overton IV of Columbia and Scot Caldwell Overton of Ellicott City; and two grandsons.
