Helen Kathleen Smith, 84, Catonsville homemaker

Helen Kathleen Smith, a Catonsville homemaker, died of bone cancer Thursday at the Phoenix Adult Care facility in Baltimore County. She was 84.

Helen Kathleen Cardiff was born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, and attended area schools.

In 1941, she married Harold William Smith, a native of Halifax, and the couple moved to the Baltimore area in 1947. They settled in Catonsville when Mr. Smith, who had worked as a printer in Nova Scotia, found work as a printer at the Sunpapers. He died in 1993.

Mrs. Smith loved bingo and traveling. She took trips throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.

A Mass of Christian burial was offered yesterday at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Catonsville, where she was a member.

She is survived by a son, Louis A. Smith of Phoenix; a stepdaughter, Gloria Anne Smith of Halifax; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
