Pratt is meeting with residents to discuss future

The Enoch Pratt Free Library is holding community dialogues this week at branches around the city to discuss development of a long-range facilities and services plan.

The sessions, all scheduled for 6 p.m., will be held at the Herring Run branch today; Reisterstown Road tomorrow; Northwood on Wednesday; and Light Street on Thursday.

Library officials hope that community input -- with the expertise of Dubberly Associates, an Atlanta library consulting firm, can help shape the Pratt's future. Representatives of the consulting firm, headed by former Baltimore County librarian Ron Dubberly, will present their preliminary findings and recommendations and listen to public comments. Fire officer on way to scene of crash involved in accident

A city Fire Department battalion chief on his way to the scene of an automobile accident yesterday was involved in a collision near Forest Park Avenue and Pickwick Road.

The fire officer, Battalion Chief James McLaughlin, was responding to an accident at Franklintown Road and William Street about 11:35 a.m. when the department Jeep he was driving collided with a 2001 Dodge Stratus. Neither driver was reported injured, and the accident remained under investigation.

5 Catholic schools to hold open houses this week

Five Catholic schools in Southeast Baltimore will be holding open houses today through Friday in observance of American Education Week.

The open houses will be held at four schools, with prekindergarten through eighth grades, and at one area high school -- all from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or at other times by appointment.

The schools are Archbishop Borders Campus at 201 S. Conkling St.; Bishop John Neumann Campus, 3500 Foster Ave.; Father Kolbe Interparochial School, 1035 S. Kenwood Ave.; Our Lady of Fatima School, 6400 E. Pratt St.; and Our Lady of the Rosary High School, 420 S. Chester St.

In Baltimore County

Timonium Road at I-83 closing to place bridge steel

TIMONIUM -- The State Highway Administration will close Timonium Road at the Interstate 83 interchange for short intervals today and tomorrow while structural steel for the I-83 bridge is put in place.

Lane closures for eastbound traffic will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. today. Total road closures lasting no more than 15 minutes each will occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. tomorrow.

The $2.8 million I-83 bridge rehabilitation project began in July and is expected to be completed in the summer. It includes bridge widening, replacement of the deck, reconstruction of road shoulders and other work.

350 high school students to perform honors concert

TOWSON -- More than 350 high school students from Baltimore County -- chosen as the county's finest chorus, band and orchestra members -- will perform at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore tomorrow.

The annual High School Honors Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and feature works that the county school system commissioned from three guest conductors, who have flown in from around the country to lead the concert.

The concert is free, but tickets are required. Those interested in tickets should call their high school's music office or the school system's office of music at 410-887-4024.

County Board of Education to meet in Towson tonight

TOWSON -- The Baltimore County Board of Education will meet in open session at 7:30 p.m. today in the Educational Support Services Building, 6901 Charles St.

The meeting will be preceded by a closed session at 5 p.m. to consider staff appointments and resignations. No public business will be conducted at the earlier meeting.

The public is invited to all open sessions.
