A.T. BLADES, formerly of Preston, MD. died at this home in Easton on Thursday November 14, 2002, he was 94. He was born on May 4, 1908 in Bethlehem, MD, the son of the late Alva and Lilly Thompson Blades. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Mary Harper Blades, who died on November 30, 1993. He graduated from Goldie Beacom Business School in Wilmington, DE. He was the Founder, President and CEO of Preston Trucking from 1932-1986. He was a Boy Scout who also supported scouting all of his life. He had served as Vice President of The American Trucking Association, President of the Maryland Motor Truck Association, Director of the Delmarva Advisory Committee, Director of Mercantile Safe Deposit and Trust, and Director at Loyola Federal Bank. He was a member of Preston Lions Club, former Board Member of Easton Memorial Hospital; was a Sunday School teacher at Bethesda United Methodist Church for many years, and was a Trustee for Peninsula United Methodist Homes. He and his wife, Mary H. Blades also established the A.T. & Mary H. Blades Foundation. Over the years Mr. Blades was very supportive of the Preston Volunteer Fire Company where he was made an honorary member. He is survived by six nephews and nieces, Beverly Blades, Robert Blades, Thomas Harper, David Harper, Dee Anne Blades and Mary Ellen Harper and their families. Two brothers and a nephew preceded him, J. Dallas Blades, O. B. Blades, and Dr. Jay Harper. Funeral services for him will be held on Saturday November 23, 2002 at 1 P.M. at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Preston, MD. with Rev. Mark Farnell officiating.
