New rec council for Union Bridge, New Windsor areas
The New Windsor and Union Bridge Area recreation councils have decided to unite into one organization named the West Carroll Recreation Council.
A public meeting of the two groups will be held at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Union Bridge Town Hall, 104 W. Locust St., to discuss the formation of the new council.
The agenda will include the election of officers, approval of a constitution and bylaws, plus a review and discussion of programs and activities.
Residents of both towns are encouraged to attend the meeting and participate in forming the recreation council.

Arc of Carroll to hold open house Thursday
The Arc of Carroll County will hold its annual open house from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at its offices at 180 Kriders Church Road, Westminster.
The Arc works with individuals who have developmental disabilities and their families.
Staff members will offer brief discussions of program areas and tours of the facility. They also will answer questions visitors may have about programs.
Light refreshments will be served.

Tour to help businesses promote local tourism
The Tourism Council of Carroll County, in cooperation with the county Tourism Office, will hold a Familiarization Tour of local sites and attractions from 8:30 a.m. to about 12:30 p.m. Dec. 12.
The tour is free but limited to the first 40 people who register. The tour is designed for frontline people in local businesses, such as restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfasts, antiques stores, who interact with county visitors.
A Tourism Office guide will lead participants on the tour and provide information and a packet to take back to their businesses.
Participants will travel by Rohrbaugh's motorcoach to the selected sites. The bus has been donated and all sites have waived their admission for the event.
The goal of the tour is to give frontline employees additional knowledge of what is available in Carroll so they can give that information to and answer questions from visitors.
