McDaniel College music department's November concert schedule will offer an array of sounds and styles to welcome the holidays.
The student Brass Ensemble will play at 7 p.m. tomorrow in (Little) Baker Chapel. The group of 12 McDaniel students and four nonstudents directed by Don Horneff will perform Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Mussorgsky's Promenade, Lennon and McCartney's Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Holcombe's Celebration for Christmas Brass, and the Canadian Brass' Saint Hallelujah.
The Piano Ensemble Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Levine Recital Hall, featuring students of David Kreider, adjunct music lecturer at McDaniel College. Performers will include Amy Huffer, Mark Gorman, Melissa Pingley, Alexandra Hill, Patti Jimenez, Heather Kirkwood, Lydia Bandy and Myfanwy Jacob.
The program will focus on music for two players at one or two pianos, including Mozart's Sonata for Four Hands K. 521, excerpts from Bizet's Jeux d'enfants, Mozart's Piano Concerto K. 459, Milhaud's Scaramouche Suite, Copland's Billy the Kid, Ravel's Mother Goose Suite and Faure's Dolly Suite.
The College Choir will present a concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 24 in (Big) Baker Memorial Chapel, directed by Margaret Boudreaux, professor and chair of McDaniel's music department.
Pieces will include Dide ta Deo by Uzee Brown Jr.; How Can I Keep From Singing?, arranged by Edward Tyler; Ave Maria by Rachmaninoff; Autumn Song by Chen Dai Lin; Missa Gaia (Mass for the Earth) by Libby Larsen; Hear My Prayer by Moses Hogan; and The Lord Bless You and Keep You by Lutkin.
The concert will be televised by Adelphia and be broadcast internationally.
Student Chamber Music Ensembles will welcome the holiday season at 7 p.m. Nov. 25 in (Little) Baker Chapel. The concert will feature the McDaniel College Flute Choir, Woodwind Quintet and Flute Quartet, under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in the college's music department.
Highlights of the concert will include the flute choir's rendition of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Little Scenes from China performed by the woodwind quintet and Arabesque I played by the flute quartet.
