THE BALTIMORE SUN

Connecticut (4-6) at Navy (1-8)

Site: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

Time: Noon

Radio: WJFK (1300 AM), WNAV (1430 AM)

Line: Connecticut by 4

Series: Navy leads 5-0

Last meeting: Navy defeated Connecticut, 21-10, Sept. 22, 1979, in Annapolis

Last game: Connecticut defeated Kent State, 63-21; Notre Dame defeated Navy, 30-23

Navy offense vs. Connecticut defense: With quarterback Craig Candeto unlikely to play, Navy will again turn to backup Aaron Polanco, hoping he can duplicate some of last week's magic when he nearly led Navy to an upset of No. 9 Notre Dame. Navy fullback Michael Brimage will get his first career start. Defensively, the Huskies have been excellent against the pass but below average against the run. Eight of the 10 teams the Huskies have played have had a 100-yard rusher.

Navy defense vs. Connecticut offense: If Navy is going to win, it has to find a way to slow down UConn's passing attack, which has helped put up 124 points in the past two games. Quarterback Dan Orlovsky has thrown for 13 touchdowns and has an NFL-caliber arm. Freshman running back Terry Caulley also has been outstanding, rushing for 899 yards on 153 carries. Statistically, the Mids have the worst pass defense in the country. Navy ranks 117th out of 117 Division I-A teams in pass-efficiency defense.

Special teams: Navy's special teams continued to struggle last week, giving up a 92-yard kickoff return to Vontez Duff of Notre Dame. Aaron Weedo did, however, give Navy some spark on punt returns, running one back for 45 yards against the Irish. Huskies junior Jason Dellaselva is averaging 20.8 yards a kickoff return, but he did have a 47-yard return against Miami.
