Autotote Systems Inc., the Delaware company that fired an employee for allegedly tapping into its computer system during the Breeders' Cup races and fixing a Pick Six wager worth $3 million, yesterday announced several precautions to tighten security.

The steps include enhanced computer protection, the hiring of a chief security officer and the implementation of an alarm system comparable to "the shrink-wrap on medicine bottles," an Autotote spokesman said.
