Do these guys do everything the same?

Matt Damon will trail his best friend, Ben Affleck, to the altar.

The New York Post reports that Damon has popped the question to his 27-year-old girlfriend, Odessa Whitmire, who used to be Affleck's personal assistant - and Whitmire said yes. Damon's rep would say only: "I don't know anything about that."

Visionary

Elton John, who claims to own some 4,000 pairs of eyeglasses, says he plans to have laser surgery so that he won't need corrective lenses.

"I'm so fed up with, 'Where are they?'" John said in a televised interview Wednesday. "I can't see anything, so why wait?"

The 55-year-old said he plans to have the procedure in February, and will auction off his collection of outrageous eyewear that includes eyeglasses with wipers, flashing lights and sun visors.

Bare facts

George Clooney's bare rump stays in the picture.

E!Online reports director Steven Soderbergh has won his appeal to the Motion Picture Association of America to overturn the R rating the board slapped on the filmmaker's upcoming sci-fi drama Solaris.

It was a complete win for Soderbergh - he has secured the more commercially viable PG-13 rating and gets to keep two scenes in which Clooney's buttocks are exposed.

After receiving the R rating, Soderbergh and distributor Fox began excising certain scenes for the notoriously finicky MPAA. But the ratings board still balked at Clooney's bottom.

"We trimmed down most of the sex scenes," a Solaris insider said last week, "and we are not taking out George's butt, which is basically all that remains - and which is actually pretty nice.

Prize package

Here's a game show prize with a difference.

Russian TV station, Channel One, will offer a trip into space for the winner of its game show. It will pay millions of dollars to reserve a spot with the cash-strapped Russian space agency, BBC News reports.

The winner will get a seat on a flight to the International Space Station late next year. The only requirements will be that the contestants are in good health and can speak English.

Fight fans

Russell Crowe has put up his dukes again, this time getting into a brawl at a chic London restaurant, newspapers reported yesterday.

The Oscar-winning star had a fistfight with a New Zealand businessman early Wednesday morning in the bathroom of Zuma, a hangout of music and film stars in the expensive Knightsbridge neighborhood, the Sun and Daily Mail tabloids reported.

Police declined to identify the people involved, but said they were called to Zuma to deal with a scuffle involving two men believed to be in their 30s.

Police planned no further action.

Blind date

Would you like to go on a blind date with Vicki from Love Boat? How about Screech from Saved by the Bell? Or maybe you'd prefer to sit back and watch them and other TV has-beens squirm as cameras follow them around all night?

Here's your chance: Star Dates, the latest reality show from E! Entertainment Television, is scheduled to debut at 10:30 p.m. Dec. 15.

Celebrities expected to take part include Phyllis Diller, Gary Coleman from Diff'rent Strokes and Kim Fields from The Facts of Life.

You want fries?

A hungry customer cut her way through a McDonald's drive-thru line in Cape Coral, Fla., - but no one dared complain.

A 4-ton elephant named Tina showed up at a McDonald's Wednesday morning, happily swallowing 10 veggie burgers that she grabbed from workers by sticking her snout through the drive-thru window.

The stunt was a promotion for the Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus playing in town.

"It was a lot of fun," said McDonald's worker Missy Williams, 34. "Her snout was kind of wet, though."

Choosing veggie burgers for Tina's menu wasn't part of any diet plan that the Asian elephant is adhering to. Elephants just don't eat meat.
