State Soccer Finals at UMBC

Today

Girls Class 2A No. 10 Century (14-1) vs. Bethesda-Chevy Chase (9-0)

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: Century, a first-year varsity team, tries to make history against defending Class 2A co-champion Bethesda-Chevy Chase, which needed a shootout to defeat No. 9 Eastern Tech in the semifinals. The Barons, ranked No. 3 in the Washington area, haven't allowed a goal all season while playing a shortened schedule. Like Century, B-CC is very young, led by a pair of sophomores in All-State midfielder Emily Forline and forward Natasha Mann (team-leading 15 goals). The Knights, from Carroll County, played some of their best ball of the season in a 5-0 semifinal win over Stephen Decatur, and suffered their only loss in overtime to Class 3A West finalist Urbana. Freshman Amanda Bradley and junior Lauren Schwarzmann each have 11 goals.
