Ravens receiver Brandon Stokley will miss Sunday's game at Miami against the Dolphins because of a sprained left foot, and rookie Javin Hunter is expected to start in his place.
Stokley hurt his foot during the Ravens' win Sunday over the Cincinnati Bengals when offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden accidentally fell on the back of his leg during a running play.
Hunter previously started for an injured Stokley (ankle) at Indianapolis against the Colts and had one catch for 7 yards.
"I'm just going to go out there with the same attitude I always have, try and make plays to help us win," Hunter said.
"I have a little bit of experience being in there, getting ready to start. I don't think anything will change with my mentality. When I go in there and have an opportunity to prove myself, that is what I'm going to try and do."
Ron Johnson is officially the team's third receiver, but Hunter is more suited to playing Stokley's position than Johnson.
The Ravens likely will keep Johnson on the outside in three-receiver formations and keep Travis Taylor as the slot receiver.
"We'll try and find a way to get [Hunter and Johnson] on the field," offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh said. "I think it is a good opportunity for them. We faced it a couple of weeks ago. It's part of that master plan to get all these young guys some playing time. Brandon needs a week to rest up, so hopefully one of those young guys will step up."
Emotional R. Williams
Miami running back Ricky Williams, though one of the AFC's best, has been described as "weird" and "emotional" throughout his four-year career.
The latter attribute could prove detrimental, according to members of the Ravens' defense. Williams is third in the conference with 811 rushing yards.
"He better not let us see him crying," linebacker Ed Hartwell said. "He's got to fix that before he sees us then."
Stover's kickoff duties
With Tuesday's release of kicker J.R. Jenkins, Matt Stover will take over kickoff duties the rest of the season for the first time since early last year.
The past two years, the Ravens have primarily carried a kickoff specialist on the roster to reduce Stover's workload, but likely will not sign another kicker to replace Jenkins.
"I've been out there quite a few times," Stover said. "The thing I have to do is be technically sound. It's one of the things I've been trying to work on since I've been called to kick off the last couple of games.
"Now that it is going to be put on me, so be it. I've always relished the opportunity and kept myself in shape to do that. I don't think the leg is going to be waning at all. I feel fresh, and I know our kickoff unit is going to do a much better job this week."
Reunited with Burnett
The Ravens will face another high-profile ex-teammate in Dolphins defensive end Rob Burnett.
Burnett, a reserve for the first time since 1991, has 16 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks this season. He had spent all 12 of his previous NFL seasons with Art Modell's franchise.
"[Burnett] has meant a lot, and it's not just his play," Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas said. "With him there, he's a leader. He came in as a leader of our defense, and he's only been here one year. We've had guys that have been here like myself, but more guys listen to him than any guy on our defense because he's been there and played on a top level for so many years."
The Ravens previously played against former teammates Qadry Ismail, the team's all-time leading receiver, and tight end Shannon Sharpe.
