Poet Al Letson gives a voice to the voiceless

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Al Letson, a Florida-based poet, performer and playwright whose work aims to give voice to the voiceless, brings his latest show, Essential Personnel, to the Theatre Project beginning tomorrow. The hip-hop-flavored work features Letson portraying 10 highly varied characters in an effort to demonstrate "the common humanity in us all."

Originally announced for the Theatre Project's 2001-2002 season, Essential Personnel premiered in Jacksonville, Fla., in January and had a two-week off-Broadway run at the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe in May. Direction here is by Barbara C. Williams.

Show times at the Theatre Project, 45 W. Preston St., are 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays, through Nov. 24. Tickets are $15. Call 410-752-8558.
