EXTRA POINTS

Air supremacy

The Rams' Marc Bulger and the Steelers' Tommy Maddox became the first quarterbacks in NFL history to throw for at least 450 yards on the same day. Bulger completed 36 of 48 passes for 453 yards and four touchdowns. Maddox passed for a franchise-record 473 yards, breaking Bobby Lane's 1958 team record of 409 yards.

Catching on

Steelers' Plaxico Burress' yardage surpassed Buddy Dial's team-record 235 against Cleveland in 1961.

Measured effort

The Steelers' 645 yards were 38 short of the team record of 683 against the Chicago Cardinals in 1958.

Getting the point

The Colts under coach Tony Dungy scored more points (14) in the first quarter against the Eagles than Dungy's Bucs did in two playoff losses (12).

Unfriendly territory

The Lions have lost 13 straight road games and haven't won in Wisconsin since 1991.

Marching along

The Saints matched their best start since 1992.

Passing marks

The Packers' Brett Favre surpassed Joe Montana for sixth place on the all-time passing yards list with 40,871.

Starting a bad trend

The Vikings are 2-7 for the first time since 1984.

Oakland (4-4) at Denver (6-2)

Time: 9.

TV: Chs. 2, 7.

Line: Broncos by 6.

Key stat: Broncos have won 12 of past 14 vs. Raiders.

Worth watching: In road wins at Kansas City and New England, Brian Griese completed 65.8 percent of his passes with three TDs and one interception. Raiders' Rich Gannon is second in NFL with 2,546 yards passing.

Outlook: Denver has great balance, with the NFL's No. 5 offense and No. 3 defense. Griese is having a solid year and rookie Clinton Portis is averaging 4.9 yards per carry. The Raiders have managed only 16 points per game during their four-game losing streak.

NEXT WEEK

Saints (7-2) at Falcons (5-3-1)

The Saints' two losses have come by a combined seven points, and they've scored at least 21 points in every game. The Falcons won the first meeting two weeks ago, 37-35.

New England (5-4) at Oakland (4-4)

The rematch of last season's AFC championship will certainly stir strong emotions among Raiders fans who felt robbed by the infamous Snow Bowl/Tuck Rule game.
