Sister Josephine Mary Anderer, a School Sister of Notre Dame who taught at Baltimore-area schools for more than four decades, died of complications from a recent stroke on Saturday at the Maria Health Care Center at Villa Assumpta. She was 91.

She was born in Philadelphia and attended schools there and in New Jersey. She earned a bachelor's degree in education and a certificate in theology from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore.

She entered the order in 1927 and professed her vows in 1931. She was given the name Sister Mary Olympia, which she used before returning to her birth name.

She spent the next four decades teaching everything from first grade to business classes. For three years starting in 1976 she was a principal at the Business School of St. Peter in Philadelphia. She held positions in several offices at her alma mater before retiring in 1987 to Villa Assumpta, where she engaged in community service.

A Mass of Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Villa Assumpta, 6401 N. Charles St.

She is survived by her brother, Charles Anderer of Millville, N.J.; and many nephews and nieces.
