Shootings claimed the lives of two young people in Baltimore over the weekend, including a 20-year-old man who was wearing a bullet-resistant vest, police said.
The latest killing occurred shortly before 2 a.m. yesterday, as the victim, Ores Carbon, 17, was standing in a park in the 2400 block of Dolton Court near his home on Annoy Court in Westport. Police said an unknown assailant shot him several times, and Corbin died a short time later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
About 9:25 p.m. Saturday, Maurice Mack, 20, of the 600 block of N. Decker Ave. was talking to a young female in the 3000 block of E. Monument St. when a gunman approached. The assailant shot Mack in the neck area with a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun, said homicide Detective Frank Miller.
The vest he was wearing stopped the round. But as Mack fled, the gunman fired two more shots, striking him in the buttocks and ankle, Miller said.
The bullet that struck him in the buttocks passed through his stomach. He died 30 minutes later at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Ten feet from where Mack fell, police recovered a .357-Magnum handgun he may have been carrying.
Miller said Mack was wearing the vest because he knew he was a target of a drug-territory dispute.
Another shooting shortly before midnight Saturday left a 33-year-old man in critical condition at Sinai Hospital.
Police said William Moore Jr. was standing outside his apartment building in the 3500 block of Woodland Ave. when someone shot him twice in the head.
No arrest had been made, and police asked that anyone with information about any of the shootings call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
