A man in the 3000 block of E. Monument St. was shot three times last night and died of his wounds less than two hours later at Johns Hopkins Hospital, city police said.

Police responded to several calls about 9:25 p.m. and found the man, who had been shot in the stomach, buttocks and ankle.

The man was wearing a bulletproof vest and had a handgun, city police Sgt. Eric Janik said. Police would not release the victim's name, age or residence.

Shells from a semiautomatic handgun were on the street, Janik said.

Police are investigating the shooting.
