Art league's annual exhibit at college through Nov. 22
The Maryland Art League Inc. is holding its annual art exhibit through Nov. 22 in the Great Hall at Carroll Community College.
The league is a nonprofit group of about 100 artists who work in a range of styles and media. Works can be viewed from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
A reception with the artists will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The public is welcome.

Capitol Steps' comedy to raise funds for The Arc
The Arc of Carroll County will present an evening of music and comedy with the Capitol Steps at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Westminster High School, 1225 Washington Road.
Capitol Steps is a troupe of congressional staffers-turned-comedians that travels the country satirizing the people who employed them.
Tickets are $15 and $10 for students; group rates of $13 are available for 10 to 25 tickets. The event is a fund-raiser for The Arc, which provides assistance to those with developmental disabilities.

African fairy tale is topic of animated film Monday
McDaniel College is holding its duPont Scholar series, "Cherish the Children: A Film/Discussion Series Celebrating Children Around the World," through May.
Discussions are geared to adults, but most films are suitable for ages 10 and older.
The next film will be shown at 7 p.m. Monday in Decker Auditorium, Lewis Hall of Science. Kirikou and the Sorceress, an animated African fairy tale, tells the story of tiny Kirikou, who sets out on a quest to free his village from the curse of a wicked witch.

Evening of poetry, music slated at arts council
Common Ground on the Hill and One Tree Productions will hold an evening of poetry and music from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Carroll County Arts Council, 15 E. Main St., Westminster.
A fourth-anniversary book release party for One Tree, Many Branches 2002 will be held, featuring the works of authors from the book.
Admission is $2 for arts council nonmembers.

Masterworks Chorale sets fall concert for Nov. 17
The Masterworks Chorale of Carroll County (formerly Westminster Choral Arts) will present its fall concert under the direction of Margaret Boudreaux at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 in Baker Chapel at McDaniel College.
The program will feature Bach's Cantata No. 80, A Mighty Fortress, and selections from Virgil Thompson, Aaron Copland and Ysaye M. Barnwell.
Tickets are $10 and $5 for students and senior citizens, in advance or at the door.

Festival seeks decorators for holiday wreath contest
Carroll County Arts Council is seeking decorators for its fifth annual Festival of Wreaths.
The festival will be held Dec. 3-7 at the Winchester Exchange Building in downtown Westminster. Wreaths will be displayed during a five-day silent auction and voted on for "best of" prizes.
All registered decorators will be provided with a 24-inch artificial green wreath at no charge. Participants may create a wreath from other materials if they wish. Decorators must register by Nov. 18.
Decorated wreaths are due at the arts council by Dec. 2. Guidelines and registration forms are available at the arts council, 15 E. Main St., Westminster.

Winners are announced in adult writing contest
Carroll Community College has announced the winners of the adult writing contest held in conjunction with tomorrow's Random House Book Fair to benefit the Carroll Community College Foundation.
Winners will be able to read from their works from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the coffeehouse during the fair at the college.
