Ellen G. Bryant, 93, registered nurse, gardener

Ellen G. Bryant, a retired registered nurse and avid gardener, died of cancer Tuesday at her home in St. Margarets, where she had lived for 71 years. She was 93.

Born Ellen Gertrude Evans in Baltimore, she was raised in Arnold and was a graduate of Anne Arundel County public schools.

She studied nursing at what is now Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. She worked at the hospital and was a private duty nurse from the late 1920s until retiring in 1978.

In 1931, she married William Gaither Bryant, a builder who constructed their house that same year. Her husband died in 1988.

Mrs. Bryant's numerous interests included painting landscapes and portraits in oil, and working in her perennial garden. She enjoyed reading and writing mysteries. She was also an accomplished pianist and seamstress.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis.

Survivors include three sons, Barry W. Bryant of Lynnfield, Mass., David A. Bryant of Annapolis and William R. Bryant of Prince Frederick; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
