South Carroll High School is holding its annual food drive to benefit Carroll County Food Sunday through Nov. 18.

Students, staff, faculty and the community can donate nonperishable food to help needy families throughout the county.

A grocery cart has been set up in the media center to receive donations. As an incentive to collect a large amount of food, media center staff are offering a prize to encourage homeroom teachers to collect food from their students.

On Nov. 19, media center staff will determine which homeroom collected the most food and reward those students with doughnuts and juice the morning of Nov. 20.

St. Paul's Episcopal plans bazaar tomorrow

St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Mount Airy will hold its annual holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow featuring homemade holiday foods, crafts and decorations.

The bazaar will feature a silent auction, 2003 Entertainment Book sales, and raffle sales for a 50/50 cash prize and a cross-stitch afghan. Lunch will be served.

Raffle drawings will be held during the church's annual lasagna dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 23. The dinner is a free event that includes lasagna, salad, bread, dessert and beverage.

Class on selecting toys to be taught at library

The Mount Airy library branch, 705 Ridge Ave., will offer:

"Year-round Story Time" for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 11 a.m. today and 11 a.m. tomorrow on "Down on the Farm," and at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday on "Sly Foxes and Wiley Wolves."

"Choosing Appropriate Toys for Your Child" for adults only at 7 p.m. Thursday. Pediatric occupational therapist Barbara Luborsky will discuss how to select toys that promote and support a child's development, how to look at toys to determine what skills they require and skills they help develop.

Children's Book Week from Nov. 18 to 23. Visitors can pick up activity sheets and enter to win a gift certificate for Whistlestop Bookstore.

Mount Airy Book Club for adults at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 to discuss While I Was Gone by Sue Miller and 1 p.m. Nov. 20 to discuss A Spanish Lover.

"Not for Children Only - Children's Classics for Adults" at 7 p.m. Nov. 21. Adults and teens can join local scholars for a discussion of old and new classics in children's literature. Classic fairy tales will be provided at registration.

Lions Club participates in Walk for Diabetes

Members of Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club recently participated in "America's Walk for Diabetes" in Frederick.

The group raised $1,085 for diabetes research through pledges for their participation.

Lions members who walked were Les and Cindy Arndt, Kent and Liz Eitemiller, Betty Sensabaugh, Bob Garber, Tom Harney, and a friend, Patty Heyman.
