Dorothy Duff Smith, 94, homemaker

Dorothy Duff Smith, a homemaker, died Saturday of complications after hip surgery at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She was 94 and lived for many years in Roland Park.

Born Dorothy Duff in Washington, she was a graduate of Sidwell Friends School and attended Connecticut College for Women in New London.

Her husband of a half-century, L. Mercer Smith, a former chief operating officer of Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. of Maryland, died in 1979.

Mrs. Smith was a gardener and enjoyed traveling. She was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 23 at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 5603 N. Charles St.

She is survived by a son, Hamilton Duff Smith of Hunt Valley; a daughter, Elizabeth Sisson Esher of Towson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
