Little Community Theatre opening its third production

THE BALTIMORE SUN

THE LITTLE Community Theatre will present See How They Run tomorrow and Saturday nights at Elmer A. Wolfe Elementary School in Union Bridge.

It is the third production for the community theater group, which was established a year ago by local residents Arnie Hayes and Mary Stong. Stong is principal at the school.

"The theater group's purpose is to bring live theater to northwest Carroll County and to get different generations working together," said Audrey Cimino, a member of the group. "The other purpose is to do workshops for children and adults."

Cimino said the workshops focus on all aspects of theater production, from how to audition to working backstage.

"We also did a camp for children last summer that was two weeks long," Cimino said. "They produced two plays at the end."

The group's first production last year was Johnny Appleseed. It earned about $2,000 after expenses, Cimino said. The second was True Blue and Trusted. Money earned from the productions is donated to the Shepherd's Staff, a nonprofit organization that aids area residents in need.

Cimino said the Little Community Theatre has 15 to 20 volunteers who work on all aspects of a production.

"We have people who work on props, and it's really neat what they have been able to do," she said. "We needed a fireplace, so our prop people built one."

Each production takes six to eight weeks of work, she said. The week of the show is particularly grueling.

"That week is called Hell Week," Cimino said. "It's a lot of work, but people love it."

Cimino said the group is always looking for people to get involved.

"We need actors, we need set people," she added.

The production's cast includes: Sharon Templeton, director; Elaine Norris, stage manager; Hayes, producer and actor; Helene Mahaney, assistant to the director; and actors Shirley Dooley, Pat Fiore, Jim Naylor, Mike Robbins, Amy Smith, Lora Strosnider, Tom Templeton and Paul Zimmerman.

Performances are at 8 p.m. this weekend and Nov. 15 and 16. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children younger than age 18.

Charity bowl success

The third annual charity bowl for the United Way held recently at Thunderhead Bowling Centre in Taneytown raised nearly $6,000.

"We would have been happy to have raised $5,000," said Marcia Gorsuch, who organized the event. "People are out of jobs now, and there were a lot of competing events going on that day."

Gorsuch said she was particularly moved by one woman's generosity. Pat Ranaldi won the 50/50 raffle and donated it back to United Way.

"People in the surrounding area were very generous and everybody in the community pulled together to make it happen," Gorsuch added. "I also can't thank our celebrities enough."

Businesses and individuals donated nearly 100 items for the silent auction, door and raffle prizes.
