Talk for parents on teen drug use slated tonight
HC DrugFree, a grassroots partnership of parents, schools and county agencies, will present the first talk in its 2002-2003 Issues in Parenting Speaker Series, "Drugs, Alcohol and Teens in Our County: A Status Report," from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Hammond High School.
Police officers responsible for drug and alcohol citations will discuss drug and alcohol use and abuse among Howard County teen-agers. Parents of middle and high school students are encouraged to attend.
Prejudice and biases focus of workshop this afternoon
The Coalition for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention in Howard County is offering a free workshop on prejudice, perceptions and biases for professionals who work with youth. The coalition of professionals from Howard County nonprofit and governmental organizations is concerned with preventing teen-age pregnancy.
"Take a Look at Yourself" will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. today in the Potomac Room of the Faulkner Ridge Staff Development Center, 10598 Marble Faun Court, Columbia.
Renee Rosenblum-Lowden, author of You Have to Go to School -- You're the Teacher!, will discuss issues of gender, age, race and ethnicity in the classroom.
