Dorothy E. Turnes, 83, homemaker, sold apparel

Dorothy E. Turnes, a homemaker and former Hutzler's department store sales associate, died of cancer Oct. 31 at Golden Age Guest Home in Sykesville. She was 83.

Born Dorothy Cooper in Richmond, Va., she was raised in Hopewell, Va., where she graduated from high school.

After her marriage in 1937 to Ernest V. Turnes Sr., the couple moved to Baltimore.

Mr. Turnes, who worked at Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s Sparrows Point shipyard, died in 1974.

Mrs. Turnes, a 60-year Dundalk resident, worked in women's apparel at Hutzler's Eastpoint store for 14 years until retiring in the early 1970s.

She was an accomplished knitter who made sweaters and afghans. She also liked working on crossword puzzles.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Connelly Funeral Home, 7110 Sollers Point Road, Dundalk.

Mrs. Turnes is survived by her two sons, Dr. Patrick A. Turnes of Finksburg and Ernest V. Turnes Jr. of Forest Hill; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
