Severna Park teens go 'Into the Woods'

THE BALTIMORE SUN

IF YOU thought October was a busy month, look out for November. Events are piling up on the calendar faster than leaves on the lawn.

The Severna Park High School Stage Company presents Into the Woods, a musical retelling of fairy tales by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Performances are at 7 p.m. Nov. 14, 15 and 16, with a 1 p.m. matinee Saturday. All shows are in the school auditorium.

Student directors are seniors Kristen Kushner and Eileen Keck and junior Jamie Boyle. Spanish instructor Barb Markey and choral director Kathy Gabrielle direct the music, while French instructor Angela Germanos directs the play.

Featured in the show are seniors Danny Schwartz and Eileen Keck as the Baker and his wife; senior Jenn Seyer as Cinderella; junior Jamie Boyle as Jack; freshman Pallas Snider as Little Red Riding Hood; and sophomore Katie Jeffries as the Witch. Sophomore Dylan Roche is the Narrator and the Mysterious Man.

Children younger than 12 are invited to attend the Saturday matinee dressed as their favorite fairy-tale character. Winners of a costume contest during intermission for the cutest, funniest, scariest and most original costumes will receive gift certificates from Be Beep-A-Toy Shop.

Tickets, which are $7, or $5 for students, will be sold at the high school during lunch periods and before performances. Information: 410-544-0900.

Piano performances

The Anne Arundel Community Concert Association presents Piano4, a quartet of virtuoso concert pianists, at 8 tonight in the Glen Burnie High School auditorium.

Formed in tribute to the First Piano Quartet of 1940s and 1950s radio fame, the quartet revives dozens of original arrangements from Bach to Gershwin. John Kozar directs.

Admission to association concerts is by subscription, but tickets for individual concerts are available at the door. Tickets are $15; $5 for students. The association returns to Severna Park High School on Dec. 13 with a performance of the Chorus of the Chesapeake and Philharmonix.

Kiwanis breakfast

The Severna Park Kiwanis Club's annual pancake-and-sausage breakfast will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church on Benfield Boulevard, Severna Park.
