School board to meet with students, hold public forum Nov. 14

The Board of Education of Howard County will hold a luncheon meeting with student leaders at noon Nov. 14 in the boardroom at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

The board's regularly scheduled meeting will follow at 4 p.m. The afternoon session and an evening session, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will begin with a public forum, where visitors may speak on any topic of interest or concern.

The board will continue to hold public hearings on the proposed elementary and middle school boundary line adjustments for the 2003-2004 school year from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. tomorrow and Nov. 13.

Those who want to testify should sign up in advance or at the time of the hearing, if time for testimony is still available. Each person will be given three minutes to speak. Those who speak should provide 15 written copies of their testimony at the time of the presentation.

The board will hold work sessions on the proposed boundary line adjustments at 7:30 p.m. today, Tuesday and Nov. 19 in the boardroom.

Those who attend will have an opportunity to leave written comments.

Technology Magnet Program sets orientations

Eighth-graders in Howard County public schools who are interested in enrolling in the Technology Magnet Program are required to attend a personal orientation session.

The pupils must first submit a personal orientation request form, which has been mailed to their homes, to the Technology Magnet Program office by Nov. 15. Parents and pupils will be contacted with a date for the orientation.
