CND soccer, hockey earn NCAA berths

College of Notre Dame soccer and field hockey teams won their respective Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference Championships yesterday and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament for the second consecutive season.

The Gators field hockey team beat Chestnut Hill, 1-0, in Aurora, N.Y., for its second conference title, and the soccer team beat Trinity of Washington, 4-1, at home to claim its fifth straight conference championship.

Freshman Dianna Abramowski (Bel Air) scored the game-winner in field hockey, and goal scorers for the soccer team were Becky Sullens (Joppatowne), Jen Leo (IND), Megan Haskins (Walter Johnson) and Veronica Zientak (Perry Hall).

Volleyball

CCBC-Catonsville won the Region XX Division II Junior College volleyball championship at Hagerstown Community College, advancing to the NJCAA tournament in Toledo, Ohio, Nov. 14-16.

The Cardinals beat the host Hawks, 30-18, 30-20, 30-10. Named to the all-tournament team were Dannie Packer (Catonsville), Jazziel Granada (Western) and MVP Bridget Thornton (CHEN).
