NFL WEEK 9

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Extra Points

Solemn moment

In their first home game since Al Lerner's death, the Browns honored their owner with a pre-game video presentation. A Marine Corps honor guard performed a 21-gun salute, and there was jet flyover for Lerner, who died at 69 of brain cancer.

Best defense

The Eagles' defense held the Bears to just 53 yards in the second half.

Coming up big

The Bengals had their biggest victory margin since they beat the Houston Oilers, 61-7, on Dec. 17, 1989.

Single-minded

The Lions had not won a game scoring in single digits since winning, 7-6, at Kansas City on Oct. 23, 1988.

Hot start

At 7-2, the Buccaneers matched the 1979 team for the best nine-game start in team history.

Historic run

Titans' Steve McNair tied Warren Moon's franchise record by throwing a touchdown pass in his 21st consecutive game.

In a rut

The Vikings have lost 15 consecutive road games.

Making their points

The Jets scored their most points (44) since a 48-21 win over Carolina on Nov. 29, 1998.

Tonight's Game

Miami (5-2) at Green Bay (6-1)

Time: 9.

TV: Chs. 2, 7.

Line: Packers by 4 1/2 .

Last meeting: Dolphins won, 28-20, at Miami in 2000.

Key stat: Packers are 13-0 when Ahman Green rushes for 100 yards.

Worth watching: The quarterback mismatch: Packers' Brett Favre leads the NFL in passing. With Jay Fiedler (thumb) out, the Dolphins again go with Ray Lucas.

Outlook: Both teams had last weekend off, giving Favre time to get his sprained knee healthy and start his NFL-leading 165th consecutive game. If Favre falters, the Dolphins will have a chance with Ricky Williams, who is averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

Next Week

Atlanta (5-3) at Pittsburgh (5-3)

The Falcons have won four in a row, their longest winning streak since their 1998 Super Bowl season. They will face a Steelers team that has also won four straight and taken control of the AFC North.

Indianapolis (4-4) at Philadelphia (6-2)

Despite losing their third straight, the Colts are in first place in the AFC South. They take on an Eagles team that has held foes to 13 or fewer points five times this year.
