Return loop off I-195 opens for BWI access

A new return loop, off Interstate 195, opens today, improving access to Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

The loop leads back to the airport's departure and arrival areas, and to the parking garage.

The new traffic configuration will eliminate the need to use Aviation Boulevard (Route 170) and the stops at two traffic lights when returning to the airport.

The loop was constructed as part of BWI's expansion plan.

BWI wins award for pavement quality

Baltimore-Washington International Airport recently was presented with the Perpetual Pavement Award from the Asphalt Pavement Alliance.

The award recognizes airfield pavement that shows the long-life characteristics of hot-mix asphalt, excellence in design and construction and value to the public. To be eligible for the award, the pavement must be at least 35 years old.

BWI's airfields were paved in 1949. They include two 10,000- foot runways and a 7,000-foot runway, as well as supporting taxiways and ramps. Samples from the base of the runways and taxi areas indicated that the pavement is in excellent condition.

Charter group to expand its offerings at BWI

Vacation Express will expand its charter program at BWI by adding Saturday flights to Aruba, Cancun, Costa Rica and Punta Cana, and nonstop flights from BWI to Punta Cana on Fridays and Mondays.
