84 Lumber Co. to donate $500 to drug program
The 84 Lumber Co. will present a donation of $500 to the Reality USA program at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Westminster store as part of its community outreach.
Store manager David Hurst will make the presentation. Reality USA is a nationwide drug and alcohol prevention education program for youths.
The money will be used for Reality USA's scholarship program which helps pay fees for students to take the course. Indigent youths who have been through the court system, or youths who are suspected of drug or alcohol use or abuse can be enrolled into the program.
The program includes information on the effects of drugs and alcohol, a trip to a hospital to see the results of use and abuse, a visit to a courtroom, and a brief time locked in a local detention center.
The 84 Lumber Co. is based in Eighty Four, Pa.
Tevis Oil to introduce biodiesel fuel Saturday
Tevis Oil Inc. will introduce its new biodiesel fuel at an event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Taylorsville Shell Station at Routes 26 and 27.
The fuel, made from pure soybean oil, can be used with any post-1984 diesel engine without modifications to increase performance and reduce emissions. Customers can custom-blend the nontoxic and biodegradable fuel with petroleum for their specific needs. Tevis has been selling a 5 percent blend of soy-based biodiesel at Bare Truck Center in Westminster.

Toy store to hold play day Saturday
Ideas etc. toys etc. will welcome Thomas the Tank Engine for a play day Saturday at the store in 140 Village Shopping Center.
Children are welcome to come play with Thomas and his friends, build tracks, bridges and stations, and take home a goody bag.
The play time is free, but space is limited and times must be reserved.

County residents establish business center at CCC
William and Eleanor Miller, lifelong Carroll County residents, donated money to establish the William and Eleanor Miller Small Business Resource Center at Carroll Community College.
The center, recently opened and dedicated to the couple, will provide programs and training to promote and support entrepreneurs and small businesses. With multifaceted resources, the center is designed to assist in the launching and growth of businesses in Carroll County.
"The endowment gift established by the Millers has been matched by the state of Maryland, Private Donor Incentive Program," said Faye Pappalardo, president of Carroll Community College.
William Miller lives at Carroll Lutheran Village. Eleanor Miller died shortly after the dedication of the center last month.

Mary Honeman honored for 25 years at CHANGE
CHANGE Inc. is recognizing Mary A. Honeman, program manager for the organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, for 25 years of service.
Honeman started out of college at CHANGE when it was known as Carroll Haven. She moved up through the years to her current position.
CHANGE stands for Carroll Haven Achieving New Growth Experiences.
